I am a junior high science teacher with experience in public policy. I blog on a variety of topics, mainly education, science, politics, and some economics. My perspective has been shaped by more than ten years teaching in a public school in Santa Maria, CA, and a year working on education and environmental policy as an Einstein Fellow in the U.S. House of Representatives. I work with MESA (Mathematics Engineering and Science Achievement, and the RoboChallenge program. I am also a gamer, and play Dungeons and Dragons, Magic, the Gathering, and many other games. I also enjoy kayaking, basketball, camping, movies, and spending time with my family.
My honors and awards include the Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence, the Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship, and Santa Barbara County Teacher of the Year.
